Urbanathalon
The first annual Hero's Challenge Urbanathalon will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Porter Park in Rexburg.

This is a 5K fun run/walk to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.  Proceeds will benefit the Madison Fire Department volunteers and the Madison Fire Department Pipe Brigade.

How does an urbanathalon honor the heroes of that day?

First responders were called in from all over the city to help at the World Trade Centers.  Because of the chaos, these responders abondoned apparatus and ran from the tunnels to the towers just so they could help; others climbed stairs to rescue those who were trapped; and, after the towers came down, even more obstacles were put in the firefighters way.  As you race through the urbanathalon you are, in a small way, honoring those that gave their all that day by overcoming obstacles placed between you and the finish line.

Who can participate?

The urbanathalon is for all ages.  Run or walk the 5K obstacle course on your own, with family, or with friends. After you finish take the memorial walk around Porter Park and end the day with a 6pm bagpipe parade and ceremony.

What are the obstacles?

Obstacles will include crawling, climbing, hurdles, scaling walls, hopping over barricades, climbing stairs, stepping through tires, and more.

What if I can't do an obstacle?

Don't worry if an obstacle is more than you can handle.  Firefighters have to take breaks too.  We call it 'Rehabbing.'  There will be a 'Rehab' area at each obstacle.  Just step into the rehab area for the allotted time.  Once time is up you can move on to the next obstacle.
